It’s hard to believe that it’s been over 30 years since the Blackthorn sank. They had just arrived at their new home across the dock from the Valiant in Galveston. And, immediately they were off to the yards in Florida for an update. I hadn’t seen SNGM Barnaby since we were in boot camp together. He had the locker next to me. I was happy to finally have someone that had spent 13 weeks of hell with me in boot camp to hang with. We were all devastated when we learned that, as they were returning from the yards, they were hit by a freighter and sank instantly with most hands…
One evening, we were all sitting around in boot camp, and the question of “why did you join” came up. His answer was, “I’ve got a wife and a couple of kids, I got tired of washing dishes to support my family and joined”. Little did he know that his real job would kill him.
I remember the burial at sea, the 13 gun salute, and the casket, dropping into the deep. I saw his pregnant wife crying, along with her two children, as they watched it slip into the sea also…

I passed the memorial in Florida, and stopped to see it. It brought back old memories…

I just ordered some more of my favorite soap yesterday. I’ve always given this to customers on the dive boat. Many have asked me what it is, and I’ve always promised to put it on the blog. Well, here it is…
This stuff is really invigorating, and be careful where you put it, that tingley feeling is kinda exciting sometimes…Better late than never…

Yep… a day at the zoo. What I really like about this zoo is that many of the animals are not in cages. They roam about the general population. Nothing like seeing a peacock roaming around inside of the lunch stand, looking for handouts…

He didn’t pop full colors inside the lunch room, but wasn’t that far away…

This was a pretty cool shot, the kangaroo with joey…

This was a tough shot through the glass… tried alot of shots throught the glass, but the reflections were difficult.

Nice contrast with the black background…

And, again, nice contrast with the green background…

The pics of moms and babies were great…

I just love the wildness of this guys eyes… got alot of other great shots, but these guys move around a bit and most were out of focus…

Could have gotten this shot in Florida… All in all, not overly thrilled with the photos. Took over 1000 shots and only 75 were acceptable. Feel like I need another day at the zoo after what I’ve learned. Or maybe, I’m becoming one of those artsy fartsy excentrics… If so, someone shoot me please…

Okay… so…. back in the yard again… did I mention how beautiful my bougainvillas are???

Oh darn… another flower and butterfly shot…

Love the colors…

More flowers…

Anyone getting tired of the flowers yet???

And this is Snorkel… the dive shop kitty…

It´s amazing the amount of small birds in Panama.

And… a finish of the day with a cold one at Fridays…

Forgive me internet, for I have sinned… It’s been 4 months since my last post.
It’s been a while, and many things have happened. First, I’m changing the direction of the biz again. I keep getting 1′s, 2′s or 3′s for customers and am adjusting the boating arrangements. Picked up some new camera gear, a used Canon 20d with a great assortment of lenses and a new Canon G7. Hopefully, this will keep up the pics. Trying to get everything down to the point where I can get on a plane with all my stuff. I’m thinking Chile or Argentina or Brazil… I’ll know when I get there.
Got a chance to try out the new camera last night. They spent a year and totally reconditioned the central park here in David. It really is much nicer than before. Some people like it, and others don’t. Pretty much normal. Here’s a pic of the new fountain at night.

I think the new camera is doing the trick nicely.
