Soooo…. the Motor Yacht Octopus comes through Panama….

Filed under: Everything, Panama — Capn Scott @ 5:33 pm

They call me on the phone a week before they are to arrive. Unfortunately, I will be in DEMA in Orlando that week… You say… “no big deal”… Actually it is… I could definitely be the head of the “big boat” fan club for this planet. I have been on boats and lived on boats and worked with boats and slept and ate and designed and built… hell… even my great grandfather designed and built the giant wooden sailing ships for the Culver Military Academy way back when… I was even in the Coast Guard back, “when the ships were made of wood… and the men were made of steel…” … Still you say, “so what?”… It happens that this yacht is the world’s largest… 411 feet with a permanent crew of 60.

M.Y. Octopus

They wanted a local guide to show them some of the best diving on the planet… Yep, woulda been me… I would have paid them, just to hang with them for the 4 days or so of diving…

SO…. literally…. my ship came in and I wasn’t around…. I hooked them up with the best guys that I know. What else could I do. I want them to come back, so I’ve made sure the guys will show them the best of the best. Hopefully the customers can handle the diving. There will probably be some healthy currents in some of the places, but the underwater life will be way past worth it. We don’t get a chance to go out and dive the outer stuff where all the big fish live that often. I wish they would have been here in February for the whale sharks or July for the humpbacks… Oh well, they will see more than they can believe with just this… After diving here, they’ll be back.

After this, DEMA just won’t be as good…

Weather Observation Station at Scuba Charters Headquarters

Filed under: Everything, Panama — Capn Scott @ 5:30 pm

Got the weather station working with the computer. Though, the puter needs to run all the time. It seems to anyway. In the morning the temp might be a bit warmer than it should due to the solar nature. Why would they make an outdoor weather sensor with the solar panel attached to the front. That means that you have to put it in the sun, which makes the reading incorrect??? Also joined the weather underground… Sounds like I’m dealing weather on the black market… Yo…. Psst… Come over here… Wanna buy some rain data??? For you I make a special price…

It’s a network of home professional weather stations. I looked up the other stations in Panama. It seems I’m it… nobody else… There is no NOAA here or anything. The only weather you get is from the news channels. Not even a vhf weather channel for the marine weather.

But, here’s a sample of the nifty gadget. It updates every hour.

Or use this link to see probably more than you ever wanted to know about the weather in David

Yep… I’m enjoying the gadgets….
